Important Questions to Ask Us Before You Book
Chances are you’re looking for a wedding photographer/videographer that will fit your personalities and your budget.
If you ever follow theKnot, they have a great list of questions you should be asking, we took the important ones from that list and will answer them for you so you’ll know them ahead of time before you book with us.
What style(s) do you specialize in?
Will the photos be retouched and color balanced? Is that done before I see the proofs?
Yes, each image will be processed to a .jpg format, cropped and color corrected if needed. You will see them once we are complete with your wedding images and videos. Additionally, some images will be further enhanced with filters, color grading, or the overall tone of the image depending on our artistic style.
How many weddings have you shot, and how many do you do in a year? Also, what's your favorite part of a wedding day, and time of year to shoot?
We’ve done more than 500+ weddings across 22 years of operation. We only take 12 couples a year, so we’re fairly exclusive when it comes to booking couples. We love shooting ceremonies and our favorite time of the year is Fall when the leaves change color in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia.
What exactly is included in your packages?
Everything and we mean that, with our Complete Collection. From coverage time to unlimited images, a warranty (which most don’t offer) to a satisfaction guarantee, unlike no other company, to multiple cameras at the wedding, drone highlights, licensed music, wireless mics, etc.
We also include a bunch of FREE welcome gifts, flexible terms and much more, we literally offer everything for your wedding. In fact, we only have a couple of upgrades to choose from when booking, an additional second shooter, 4K video instead of HD, and an engagement shoot.
How many hours of coverage do we get? What is the charge for overtime?
Included with any main service, you get up to 10-hours coverage which is sufficient for most couples. If you need additional time, we’ll work with you on that, the rate is $150/hr.
What is the deposit and total fee?
So the answer is, it depends.
You’ll find that we’re a bit unique in allowing couples to put down what they want, choosing a range of 10 percent to 50 percent for a deposit.
Once we have a balance, you then get to choose from either paying that balance the month of your wedding or you can choose monthly installments at 0% interest.
You can pick from 1 month to 24 months to pay, so we’re flexible on what best suits you. There are no additional fees as long as you are making regular payments.
Will you be my actual photographer, or will it be one of your associates?
Yes, Carole and Joshua will be your photographers and videographers, unless otherwise stated.
Do you have backup photographers who will shoot the wedding if you're sick?
We do have backup professionals that can take on the day’s work should one of us be sick, however, that’s never happened in our 20+ years.
Will there be a second shooter or any assistants? Is there an additional fee for each?
You do have an option to hire a second shooter at a rate of $500. We’ll only recommend one should we feel that your wedding day is large enough to warrant one.
Additionally, Carole and Joshua also help cover each other in a pinch, so as long as one is around, they can usually grab both images and video for the day. It’s like having a bit of added insurance when working together.
How long after the wedding do we get to see the photos?
The contract states 3-4 weeks and usually, our turnaround is much faster at a couple of weeks times. We do typically provide a private online gallery of a handful of images that you can download and share within 24-48 hours. It’s a great way to see a few teaser images before we start the real work of going through everything.
How many weddings do you do a weekend?
We only try to do one per weekend, although sometimes we have back to back days, that’s fairly rare for us. We only do one wedding per day, however.
Will you follow a shot list? Or do you prefer to have free reign to capture the festivities how you see fit?
We do have a generic list that we give to each couple and they can add to it should they have special requests or needs. We also like inspiration, so if you have images that you like to recreate, we can definitely accommodate you too.
Do you bring your own lighting?
Yes, in dark situations, we have flashes and lights that we bring with us if needed. They are bright enough to capture what we need without being too overbearing. Additionally, we both use full-frame cameras which allow for better quality images and video in darker situations.
Do you have backup equipment or memory cards?
Yes, in fact, everything we have is redundant, Carole and Joshua both have primary and secondary cameras as well as a third if needed. Each of the primary and secondary cameras has dual memory cards that store each piece of media onto memory cards should one be corrupt.
When dumping everything into the computer system, we put a backup on our local network drive, as well as the local computers’ use and every final USB has a separate copy we keep as a master on file in a fire-resistant safe for keeping in case we need it again.
