Your wedding day truly does go by quickly
One of the things that you may have heard while starting the wedding planning process is that your wedding day will go by in a blink of an eye.
As a career-long wedding professional, I can tell you that it is the case, you will be pulled in various directions from the moment you arrive at the venue to get your hair and makeup done, to putting on the dress, taking a mountain of images and video clips with your bridal party, and that’s just the first few hours.
Why The Day Goes by So Fast
Well, it’s the old saying, “time flies when you’re having fun” and weddings are indeed just that. When you get married, there is simply a lot of demand on you, your soon-to-be spouse, and keeping the day together all while trying to entertain friends and family.
One of the things that Carole I do with each of our clients is forcing them to spend 5-10 minutes together, without anyone else around.
We usually do this just after the couple’s images and right before the ceremony and it does a couple of things.
First, it allows them to have some real alone time, that’s because all throughout the day both of you are going wide open and you truly don’t have an intimate moment by yourselves, so we purposely invite the couple to take 5 and pause their day to share the time one-on-one.
Second, you honestly need a break and that’s something we understand.
Weddings are stressful and there is very little time to soak in those moments.
Because you are being pulled in a tremendous amount of direction, time seems to go by much faster.
In Part, You Are Pulled Everywhere
Many couples tell me that going through a wedding day is kind of like being in a tornado of sorts, from photographers, videographers, planners, bridesmaids, groomsmen, the catering companies, the DJ, the officiant, the hair, and makeup artists, the friends, and family, they all play a part in the day’s events going by swiftly.
The best thing we can do is to try and capture those moments through video and photos, then offer a brief pause as we chatted about earlier.
I can tell you that having a planner will help with the stress of the day and we highly recommend that you hire someone that can help guide you through all the in’s and out’s of your evening if possible.
Ways to Help Slow the Wedding Day Down
We do have a few suggestions on helping to slow the wedding day down for you and your new spouse.
First, try to take in each of the big moments in stride by literally pausing for a few seconds. Putting on the dress, walking down the aisle, your first kiss, your first dance and cake cutting,
While these are the best moments of your day, just reflect on them just before they take place.
Second, remember that you hired a photographer and hopefully a videographer to cover all those special moments that made the day worthwhile.
Allow them to be able to cover the day’s events and do what they need to help reflect the day through media.
Next, don’t beat yourself up if you don’t get a chance to chat with everyone on the wedding day, trust me.
The more guests you have, the shorter amount of time you’ll have to strike up a real conversation with them, but it’s important to know that they are there with you enjoying the evening.
Finally, this goes back to hiring a planner and real professionals for the wedding day. Hiring people with a lot of experience means they are not going to bother you much throughout the day with little details.
The more you trust and allow your vendors to work their craft, the less stressed you will be and the slower the day will go by for you.
