Getting Married ON a Wednesday is the BEST Day.

If you’re planning your wedding and you’re looking to save some money, then you are like nearly 67% of American couples that get married.

In fact, wedding budgets often stay on couples’ mindsets when they book vendors such as myself or my wife Carole, keeping in line with the wedding budget is a monumental task in itself at times.

Well, as a wedding expert and wedding filmmaker, getting married on a Wednesday is by far the BEST day to get married, it’s best on your budget, it’s best for your guests during the week and it’s great for us vendors too.

Today, I’m going to explain why Wednesdays are the best day to get married!

Wednesday is the Best day for Vendors

I can tell you that as a wedding vendor, having a midweek wedding is an awesome thing!

One of the reasons I love that idea is because there isn’t really anything going on during the majority of the week for a wedding vendor.

Since Friday, Saturday, and Sundays are the most popular days for weddings, Wednesdays allow a couple of days of downtime for the vendors and it helps break up the week too.

One secret I will tell you is that vendors love to get extra gigs as they can like a wedding.

If they can squeeze in a wedding during the week, it’s additional income for them, even if it’s at a discount, but more on that in a bit.

Another great reason Wednesday is the best for us vendors, we’ve had a chance to recover from the weekend’s weddings. See, many of us get what’s called the “wedding hangover” and no, it’s not from drinking.

Wedding hangovers are from working hard the day of the wedding and sometimes we need a day or two to recover from it physically and emotionally.

It’s a hard roller coaster during the day and it takes a lot out of us at times and we just need to recover, especially those that have a couple of weddings during the same weekend.

Wednesday is the Best Day for Guests

While guests usually have a lot of free time on the weekends, Wednesdays are the best day of the week to have a wedding and that’s because guests usually have an easier time getting that day off than any other.

Additionally, your wedding guests will enjoy a mid-week wedding because it helps break up the workweek in general and we all love getting a break from the work week!

Finally, you can usually have a wedding earlier in the day, like 12 noon or 1 pm. You’ll still have time to have a 9 pm exit and your guests can still enjoy a few adult beverages in the process. There is no need to keep your reception going until 10 pm or midnight for example.

I can tell you that some guests will not want to come on a midweek wedding.

First, its not traditional and second those that work, may not be able to get that time off work. Beyond that however, your guests should be able to attend and it will most times be a minimal effort to get a day off work.

Getting Married on Wednesdays saves you LOT’s of Money!

By far, the best reason to get married during the middle of the week is that it puts you in control of being able to find the right vendors, at a discount!

Some will not budge, but many vendors will offer discounts for having what’s called an off-peak wedding day. If you follow the blog on a regular basis, then you know that off-peak days and even off-peak seasons can save you BIG bucks with venues, photographers, videographers, and the like.

Now, some companies like catering and florist, for example, have hard costs, even during the weekday, so chances are that they may not be able to discount if they do it maybe 5% or 10%.

I’ve seen some venues across the county offer couples up to 40% off their peak days and peak wedding seasons. Here in Virginia for example, the peak season is Mid-March through October.

That means November, December, January, and February are the best months for saving the most money, but that’s in our region. Places like Florida, for example, don’t have a peak and off-peak season to get married because it’s always warm there.

But, you can still save money by asking to have the wedding on a Wednesday. Most vendors will gladly discount to some extent and it doesn’t hurt to ask.

If you are getting married during the peak wedding season and you have the big day on a Wednesday, I’d say you can expect to save anywhere from 5%-25%, perhaps more.

It also puts you in better control of the vendor selection, since most couples get married on a weekend, vendors tend to book up quickly.

If you’re getting married during the week, you are most likely NOT competing among other couples to book the vendor. There are hundreds of other couples looking book venues, photo and video pros, florists, DJ’s, planners, and the like too.

By putting yourself in a unique day, or, at least one where there’s not a lot going on, then it gives you the advantage among just about everything, vendors, other couples, discounts, etc.

We Offer a Discount for Weekday Weddings

We do offer a small discount if you get married on a Wednesday, 15% off. While that might not seem like much, it is when you’re spending a few thousand bucks, that’s $367 on our wedding photo and film combo currently. We also offer a 10% discount on our other packages too.

A discount is given because Wednesdays are not a high demand day and thus we lower the price slightly. It’s supply and demand, plain and simple.

Yes, But That’s Not For Me

Listen, I completely understand the point of having your wedding on the weekend, most are not working and it’s downtime.

But, if you’re a millennial couple looking to get hitched and you want to save money all while doing things slightly out-of-the-box, then this is something you need to do, at least look into.

Traditional vs Off-Peak Day Costs

If you were planning a wedding and the average cost is about $34,000, would saving 30-40% on the entire wedding be worth something to you if you simply changed the day?

“That’s a savings of $10,000-$13,000 for literally the same wedding with the same vendors, just a midweek day ceremony and reception.”

That is definitely something worth looking into and we recommend that you do.

Some couples just refuse to look at other days than a Saturday and that’s okay too. Saturday is the #1 prime day to get married and the most costly too.

What Do You Think?

Would you have your wedding on a Wednesday if it meant you could save $10,000-$13,000? We’d love to know, answer the poll question below and drop a comment in the section below and let us know!
