Virginia Micro Wedding

Kristin and Zac are a wonderful couple that lives in Roanoke city and they opted for a great micro-wedding at their home.

Over the course of the last year, micro-weddings have been a huge trend for couples wanting to get married and rightfully so, they are smaller, roughly half the time and cost far less than traditional weddings.

Carole and I had the privilege to cover their event with both photos and video, oh and a live stream too.

What Makes a Micro Wedding Worth the Value?

For Kristin and Zac, they got to have a great wedding day right at home, literally.

Set in their backyard, with just a handful of vendors, a catering company, a couple of live musicians, and of course Carole and myself, I can tell you that micro-weddings have a great benefit above full-blown weddings.

It’s the ability to spend far more time with guests, setting a relaxing atmosphere and of course, it saves you a lot of money too.

Couples having micro-weddings tend to have much less stress on their plates with regards to making sure everything happens and just the stress of the day itself.

More time with Guests

Sure, it’s hard not having all your friends on the wedding day, and having to choose who will come and who will watch from afar can be a huge challenge.

For Kristin and Zac, it was easy, just immediate family and a few close friends.

But here’s the benefit, you get to spend the afternoon with them in a very close manner, unlike a full-scale event.

They only had a couple of ‘reception’ style things, the first dances and a cake cutting, otherwise, people eat, relaxed, listened to music and just enjoyed themselves, just as it should be.

Much less stress

With the day at hand, Kristin was far less stressed than if she had an entire day planned at a wedding venue.

The great thing about her wedding was that you can tell she was able to just be herself and had almost no stress other than just the ceremony.

We’re finding that the micro-weddings we’ve done in the last year, couples are so much more relaxed than their counterparts, and being stress-free goes a long way with a wedding.

It’s a HUGE Savings too

While it still costs money, having a micro-wedding can actually save far more than you’d think, upwards of 60% more!

Since Kristin and Zac didn’t have a venue, DJ, minimal flowers, a smaller cake, they were able to save a lot of money.

That's important in today’s wedding marketplace where things can easily reach $34,000 or more, that according to the Knot.

From the research we’ve found, couples spend almost 60% less than the national average for a micro-wedding, around $13,600. (That’s the average, in many cases, it’s far less.)

Wedding Type Costs

So, what defines a micro-wedding, to begin with?

In a nutshell, a micro-wedding like Kristin and Zac is defined as the following:

  • Less than a 5-hour event

  • Less than 50 people total (bridal party and guests combined)

  • Smaller footprint than a traditional wedding

Having that smaller footprint will save you time, money, and energy for the wedding day. If you can handle the smaller guest list and money savings, then having the micro wedding might be beneficial for you and your soon-to-be spouse.
