3 Important things your wedding photographer should be doing

Another QBlog or “Quick Blog” series.

You’ve booked your wedding photographer for the day and you are set, ready for the wedding day!

Well, as you may or may not know, not all photographers are alike, today we’re going to tell you about 3 very important things your wedding photographer should be doing to make your wedding day easier.

Duplicate Everything

First, make sure that they duplicate everything they do at the wedding, we’re talking backup cameras and dual memory cards.

Not all cameras feature them, but some older systems and many new ones offer dual memory card slots.

It’s important for a camera to record images (or video if it’s a videographer) on two cards. Having an immediate backup of their images makes for a safer, better wedding day and it provides less of a chance the images will be lost due to a card failure.

Next, make sure the wedding photographer has a second or even third camera system with them. Being able to take images on both systems will be better than doing everything on just one. Again, it’s a technology thing, sometimes things break, so it’s better to have half than nothing at all.

A Good Contract

The next thing on our list is to make sure the wedding photographer has a good, solid contract, for both you and them too.

You will want to protect yourself should you need to cancel the wedding or reschedule it, something a lot of couples have seen over the last year with COVID-19 for example. You will also want to make sure that the services are spelled out so you know what you will be getting from your wedding day.

Things like an estimated date of getting your media back are important as well as the vendor’s contact information should you need to get in touch with them, mailing address, phone number, website, and email.

Good Communication

Finally, your wedding photographer should be providing you good communication with prompt emails, phone calls, and the like.

While it’s important to remember that wedding vendors are working with several couples at any given time, they are also working during the week to edit and process the images they took at weddings.

Our rule of thumb is to give a 24-hour window before getting a returned communication, that is the max time we would allow. Sometimes, we get emails from people during a wedding, well, we can’t just stop what we’re doing to answer the emails.

Other times, we answer within minutes of getting a communication, but in either case, we communicate.

Being able to get all the information that you need is important and you will want to make sure that your questions or concerns are being answered quickly.
